Workshops and Informative Sessions

This workshop aims to explain the difference between needs that are considered additional and those that are considered special as well as the difference providing for them within the SEND Code of Practice. It provides practical advice on pathways to follow depending on whether the need is to be classed "additional" or "special".

This workshop is designed to signpost parents when confused by the complexities added by their local SEN statutory services. It provides landmarks to identify where a child may be “found” within the system and clarifies what outcomes are to be sought every step of the way to ensure a positive and constructive outcome.

Advocating for one’s child is meant to be an innate skill when becoming a parent. This – however – can prove extremely daunting, frustrating and scary (to name a few of the feelings parents often experience) when getting to understand a child’s differences. It can become overwhelming for parents as soon as discussions with professionals start. The language used during these conversations is a “make or break” factor. This workshop provides a forum to safely explore how feelings get the best of all those involved in establishing a robust team around a child and how written communication can become a parent’s best asset.
